Under eye: It’s almost like the reviewer didn’t read the book I wrote!
Under nose: It hurt my feelings so much
Under mouth: how could they feel those things about my book? I put so much into it!
Collarbones: So much and then I get a bad review
Under arm: It really hurt my feelings.
Top of head: It kinda stopped me in my tracks for a bit.
Positive round:
Eyebrows: I’m feeling better
Side of eye: It’s one reviewer. It’s just one reviewer
Under eye: Not everyone has said that
Under nose: I’m feeing better and I’m ready to release this feeling that somebody’s hurt me
Under mouth: Because it’s just their opinion
Collarbones: I really worked hard on my book and I know that. And I have other reviews.
Under arm: So I’m going to focus on those good reviews and focus on my writing
Top of head: Because every time I write a new book I just get better and better. And I am not going to stop just because one reviewer hurt my feelings.

Side of eye: It’s like this person read my book but they didn’t read my book.
Under eye: They just don’t understand me at all.
Under nose: Nobody should be mean like that in a review. That’s not right
Chin: I really want to say something. I really want to write something back but all my writer friends say no, don’t do that.
Collarbones: Don’t engage, let it go. But how do I let it go?
Under arm: I got a bad review. I can’t stop looking at it, it’s in my head.
Top of head: I got this bad review and I can’t stop thinking about it and looking at it
Positive round:
Eyebrow: I’ve been tapping on this, and I know I can’t respond, and I’m feeling calmer.
Side of eye: Maybe it is time to release this need to respond.
Under eye: Maybe it’s time for me to not read that review anymore.
Under nose: Maybe it’s time to just trust myself. I’m a writer, I’m going to keep writing.
Chin: And it was one review. There are a lot more on my review site.
Collarbones: I’m ready to let this go. I’m ready to just let it go.
Under arm: I don’t need to look at this review again.
Top of head: I’m ready to let this go and get back to work writing.

Take a deep breath and think about how resistant you feel to getting back into the swing of things with your writing. Maybe you’re feeling procrastination, fear, overwhelm, or something else. Name it, and give it a rating between 0-10, with 0 being totally fine, 10 being the worst. And then start tapping, starting with the negative first.
Side of hand: Even though I’ve had a wonderful vacation and now I have to go back to work and I don’t want to, I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though going back to work after a really great vacation kind of sucks, I accept how I feel.
Even though sometimes I just want to stay relaxed and not have to get back to work, I know I need to and I accept how I feel.
Eyebrow: I've had this great time off in the summer.
Side of eye: And now I have to go back to work.
Under eye: Kids are back in school. Everything’s set for me to work in the house. It’s quiet.
Under nose: But I don’t want to do it. I’ve had such a great time off.
Chin: And I don’t know what to do about it.
Collarbones: I don’t want to go back to work. And it’s so frustrating, and I know I need to, and I have so much work that I need to get done. I am so behind.
Under arm: And I just don’t want to. I feel tired. I could make all sorts of excuses. I’m tired. I want to relax. I never have enough time off.
Top of head: But I’m not getting any books done like this.
Positive round:
Eyebrow: It’s time to get back to work and actually, a part of me is excited to.
Side of eye: I have so many things to write about, and I did have some new story ideas when I took my time off.
Under eye: So, I’m excited to sit down and maybe I can take it in small steps.
Under nose: Just a couple hours in the morning.
Chin: Maybe a couple hours in the afternoon.
Collarbones: Take a little break in between, because everybody needs a little break. And just let myself slowly ease back into it.
Under arm: And I’ll probably get pretty excited about this because I do love to write.
Top of head: Okay, I can do this. One step at a time. Getting back to work after my break.

Under eye: The words won’t come.
Under nose: I don’t know what scene comes next.
Under mouth: I don’t even know if I’m writing the right thing.
Collarbone: I am so stuck.
Under the arm: And I don’t even want to work on it right now because I’m so stuck.
Top of head: Feeling so stuck on this book.
Positive round:
Eyebrow: I am so tired of feeling stuck.
Side of eye: I really like what I’m writing.
Under eye: I’m ready to resolve this stuckness.
Under nose: Maybe I am ready, maybe it’s time.
Under mouth: I think it’s time to let it go and to sit down and write.
Collarbones: Just a few pages. Just let’s see how it goes.
Under the arm: I’m ready. It’s time. I’m going to sit down and write.
Top of head: And I’m starting to feel excited about my writing again

Side of hand: Even though I feel like an imposter, I don’t feel like I’m really a writer, I don’t feel like I”m good enough, I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though I struggle feeling like a real writer: I haven’t hit the big time, I’m selling some books but not as many as I’d like and I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though I feel like an imposter sometimes. Maybe I’m just not good enough. Maybe I’m not really a writer. I accept myself and how I feel.
Eyebrow: All this angst, all this worry about writing.
Side of the eye: This feeling like I’m an imposter.
Under the eye: What if I’m not good enough?
Under the nose: I have book sales though not as many as I’d like.
Chin: I have reviews, but not as many as I’d like.
Collarbones: Other people seem to go faster than me, get more sales, put out more books.
Under arm: Even some authors I’ve read, who started publishing after I did, have more reviews.
Top of head: I just sometimes don’t feel like I’m successful or good enough to really call myself a writer.
Positive round
Eyebrow: I’m feeling better after tapping. I am a writer, that’s what I’ve realized.
Side of eye: I’m a writer. It’s what I love to do.
Under the eye: I am going to trust in myself.
Under nose: I’m going to trust in my books.
Chin: I’m ready to release this imposter syndrome.
Collarbones: Everybody starts somewhere. I can’t compare myself to other people. I’m me.
Under arm: I can’t compare my books to other people’s books. These books are unique, they’re mine, and I love them.
Top of head: I am trusting myself now to continue my writing process and to continue my marketing and to believe in myself as a writer.

Even though it seems like my editor is being awfully mean making these comments, I don't understand where they're coming from. I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though my editor's comments are like a dart to the heart, it just hurts and I don't understand where these comments came from. I accept myself and how I feel.
Eyebrow: My editor's comments hurt.
Side of eye: I don't think my editor understands what I'm trying to say.
Under eye: Maybe I didn't get the right editor. They don't understand my book.
Under nose: I'm really upset about these comments. It just makes me fume.
Chin: Oh, I want to stop right now and just ignore these comments.
Collarbones: I'm so frustrated. I'm so angry. I feel like my editor just doesn't understand what I'm trying to say.
Under arm: These comments are a dart in the heart. It just really makes me angry and it hurts.
Top of head: Oh, so frustrated. So angry.
All right, judge where you are and if you're ready, go on to the next positive round.
Eyebrow: Maybe it's time I relax about these comments a little bit.
Side of eye: I paid for them. No matter what happens, I've paid for them.
Under eye: So maybe it's time I just read through them a little at a time, take note of what my editor has said,
Under nose: And then maybe it's a good idea to put the manuscript down for a couple of days and think about it.
Chin: I don't have to agree with everything my editor says, but I hired my editor for a reason because they know more about this than I do.
Collarbones: So maybe it's time to just read everything, take a deep breath, maybe do a little tapping while I read through my editor's comments…
Under arm: Put it down for a bit, and then come back because maybe there's wisdom there that I'm missing right now.
Top of head: I am ready to reframe this. I am ready to go back and just read these comments and see where it goes.

Take a deep breath and think about how you’re feeling about your first draft. Name any emotions you’re feeling, and give the intensity of what you’re feeling a rating between 0-10, with 0 being totally fine, 10 being the worst. And then start tapping, starting with the negative first.
Side of hand: Even though my first draft is trash. I’ve been reading over it and oh my gosh, what am I going to do with this thing? I completely accept how I feel.
Even though I think my first draft sucks, actually, I accept how I feel and I’m going to relax about it.
Even though my first draft, I just finished it, and it’s not that good, I deeply and completely accept myself and how I feel.
Eyebrow: Oh my gosh, I just read through my first draft and it’s terrible.
Side of eye: What in the world am I going to do with this thing? Maybe I should just throw it away.
Under eye: I don’t even know how I’m going to get through this rewrite, this revision process.
Under nose: I am so frustrated with this whole book and all of the writing stuff.
Chin: Somedays I just want to quit.
Collarbones: I don’t know what I’d do, but it’s really frustrating when my book is just terrible. I have so much work to do on it! I can’t believe all the things I saw.
Under arm: I don’t even know if I can shape this thing up into a decent novel.
Top of head: My first draft is not good and I’m so frustrated.
Positive round:
Eyebrow: Okay, taking a deep breath. I’m going to calm down.
Side of eye: This isn’t the first “first draft” I’ve had and I know that it always starts out this way.
Under eye: I have author friends and they have the same thing. The first draft is crap.
Under nose: But there are revisions, there are editors, and there are critique groups.
Chin: And I have people who will read and give me feedback.
Collarbones: Okay so my first draft is not great, but I can revise it and I do have some support. And if I don’t, I’m going to find it.
Under arm: Because there are support systems out there to help me rewrite and finish my book.
Top of head: Taking a deep breath here, letting go of the frustration. I’m going to get the revisions done.

Side of hand: Even though I finished my book and I thought I was done, I realize there's so much more to do and I accept all my frustration and everything I'm feeling.
Even though I finished the book and I thought oh cool I'm done with the hard part, I now realize that's not true and I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though I finished the book and I thought I was over the big hurdle, I realize I'm not and I accept myself and all my feelings.
Eyebrow: I finished my book and I thought woohoo I'm done. I got the biggest part of it finished and done.
Side of eye: And then I realized I had to edit, I had to publish, I had to market my book.
Under eye: Actually, writing was the easy part.
Under nose: Oh my gosh, I don't even know how to figure out how to edit, publish, market.
Under mouth: There's so much to do and I'm overwhelmed.
Collarbones: I'm feeling so overwhelmed with everything I have to do as an author, as an independent author.
Under arm: There's so much to do and I don't even know where to start and I'm not even sure where to turn.
Top of head: All this frustration, all these feelings of overwhelm. Oh, I just wish I knew where to turn next.
Positive round:
There's a lot more in this topic than I can cover in one round but let's go ahead and do a more positive round to bring down the intensity.
Eyebrow: I've been doing some studying and looking online
Side of eye: And I found a couple things that can help me with what my next steps are.
Under eye: I've talked to other writers and they're helping me and they're giving me ideas and I'm starting to feel better.
Under nose: I'm starting to calm down and make myself a good list.
Under mouth: Here's what I need to do now and then I do this and then I do that.
Collarbones: I don't know, I'll probably miss some stuff in there and maybe it won't be perfect.It's the first time I've done this as an author and maybe I'll always feel this way even when it's the 10th time but I'm gonna keep going forward.
Under arm: I'm feeling better. I've reached out to authors. I've found some resources to help me and I'm letting some of the stress go.
Top of head: Just releasing some of the stress so I can take those next steps forward.

Side of eye: I thought that writing the book was hard.
Under eye: But now I have to go back through it all again…
Under nose: And make changes.
Chin: What if I don't make the right changes?
Collarbones: What if I don't see what I really need to edit?
Under arm: What if I just need to edit so much it takes longer to edit than it did to write the book?
Top of head: I don't want to edit. Editing is so stressful.
Positive Round:
Eyebrow: Oh, I'm feeling better after tapping.
Side of eye: Releasing some of the stress around editing.
Under eye: I'm letting my body relax.
Under nose: Maybe editing isn't as hard or horrible as I think.
Chin: I'm ready to finish my book. I know that.
Collarbones: And I really like my book. I think it's good. It just needs a little polishing, a few edits.
Under arm: Maybe editing's not as hard as I've made it out to be.
Top of head: It's time to edit and I'm excited to get started.

Chin: I’m ready to quit. I’m so embarrassed. I’m so ashamed.
Collarbones: All this embarrassment and shame and just, I’m not a good writer. I need to stop.
Under arm: Feeling like I’m not a good writer.
Top of head: Struggling with these feelings that I’m not a good writer.
Positive Round:
Eyebrow: I’m feeling better after tapping.
Side of eye: And I’m realizing that maybe what one person said isn’t the truth that I should accept.
Under eye: Maybe I need to look at this as “that’s one person’s opinion”, but just because someone said it, doesn’t mean I’m a bad writer.
Under nose: I like my books and I love to write.
Chin: I have good reviews I’m not going to give up.
Collarbones: I’m human. Maybe I can write a better book next time. I’m going to get better every time, but I’m not a bad writer now.
Under arm: I am a writer and I’m proud of it and I’m going to keep getting better.
Top of head: I’m a writer. I’m proud of it and I’m not going to let one review stop me.

Side of hand: Even though editing feels impossible. I got through the book and now I have to go through it all again and fix things, I accept myself and how I feel.
Even though editing can be really difficult, because sometimes it’s hard to know what to edit, I accept myself and how I feel.
Editing just seems like it’s never ending. And it almost feels like it’s harder than the writing part. And I have to keep going and get the editing done. But I don’t want to. And I accept my feelings.
Eyebrow: Oh my gosh, editing. I thought the writing part was hard.
Side of eye: This is driving me crazy. I don’t even know for sure if I’m doing a good job of it.
Under eye: And then I came to a part where I realized I’d forgotten an entire other part of my story, and now I have to change that whole section.
Under nose: There is always so much with editing, and sometimes it’s hard to keep track of it all.
Chin: Sometimes I forget what I said earlier in the book. I know that sounds crazy, but I do.
Collarbones: This editing is just driving me crazy.
Under arm: I have so much left to do. Will I ever get through the editing?
Top of head: And then when I’m done with this round, how many more rounds are there to go?
Positive round:
Eyebrow: Okay, taking a breath here. I can do this.
Side of eye: I wrote the book. I want it to be good. I can fix the book.
Under eye: Editing is just part of the process. And I need to stop thinking of it in such a negative way.
Under nose: I’m going to let editing just be what it is.
Chin: I can do this. I wrote a book. I can edit the book.
Collarbones: I’m going to relax, take a deep breath, and edit one chapter at a time.
Under arm: I need to quit looking at it like it’s the whole book, and just look at it like it’s a part of the book.
Top of head: Letting this all settle, and realizing I can take it in pieces is more relaxing. I can do this.
